Literature Text

here we are, on a night
needing peace after tense waiting,
lays a town in discord;
chaos and disorder being thrown
upon a town trying to band together
against a (perceived) unjust force.

tear gas fired, bottles and rocks thrown
against the people that were supposed
to protect residents, black or white;
fires set ablaze, businesses looted
out of anger after it all erupted...

picture it now, and it'll look
and feel like you're in
a different country;
you will have seen a war break out
between different colors
and different beliefs.

now, as we look at the world
in this state of being,
we may ask ourselves:
"are we lost? are we unheard?"

however, as we watch it all unfold,
i do know this:
we are all drowning out...
As I watch CNN's live coverage of the aftermath of the verdict of the shooting death of Michael Brown, I decided to type up this free-form poem on the situation. I will clarify that while I do have some views on this controversial issue, I tried to keep those to myself.
